May I Have Your Attention, Please? – Part 1 [Blog]

AttentionNow that I have your attention, I want to say thank you! No, seriously. I appreciate you being a part of the Prospecting Expert Community and for taking the time to read this.

For years I have been preaching that nothing happens until you get in front of a prospect or client. Well, that is true. However, there is a much greater challenge facing all of us in sales and that is getting the prospect or customer’s attention. Let’s face it, you cannot solve the prospect or customer’s problem until you get their attention.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, at the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the average attention span of a human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. This is one second less than the attention span of a goldfish. Think about that for a minute. A goldfish can focus for 1 second longer than the average human being.
