How we communicate our message is done with words, how you say those words, and what you say with those words. Picture this, you are going to become an artist that creates pictures in the mind of the listener. The words are the paint. The “how” are the brushes or the application of the paint to the canvas and the “what” is the final picture. And that final picture has to be clear and concise or you will confuse people.
We all have negative speech habits. The “ah's”, “um's”, “err's”, “ya know's”, “okee dokee's”, the “you betcha's” and “I was just wondering's”. Did you know that the word “wondering” means to convey doubt? How many times a day do you start out a conversation with, “I was just wondering”? Is that the message you really want to communicate? Probably not.
How many times have you talked with someone on the telephone and met that person for the first time. Did they look anything like you thought they should look? Probably not. That is the power of your voice and the words you choose.
