Last week I was at The Big Event listening to some amazing speakers. One of the speakers was Dr. John Maxwell. He gave the audience 10 questions to test their dream. It was a great exercise to see how real our dreams are. Below is a list of questions that Dr. Maxwell shared.
Take the dream test below.
1. Is my dream really my dream?
Most people are not really living their dream. They are living someone else's dream. How often are we doing what others think we should do? And, have we bought into our dream? In other words, are we paying the price both financially and physically? “No person that ever got to the top because someone carried them.” ~ Dr. John Maxwell
2. Do I clearly see my dream?
Clarity helps you prioritize the activities that move you closer each day to achieving your dream.
3. Am I depending on things in my control or am I depending on things out of my control to achieve my dream?
I love this question. It comes down to, “Do I have the skills, abilities and talents to accomplish this dream? Or, do I need the skills and abilities of other to help me?”
4. Do I have the energy to achieve my dream?
Do you have the physical stamina to accomplish your dream? Are you passionate about your dream? I have found that people who are passionate have a lot more energy.
5. Do I have a strategy to achieve my dream?
Remember this, hope is not a strategy. You can't possibly know everything in the beginning because you have no way of knowing what obstacles you will encounter. You need a strategy.
6. Who do I have around me that can help me achieve the dream?
Who is on your team? “Develop your dream team based on the skills and abilities you need to accomplish your dream. A nightmare is a dream with the wrong team.” ~ Dr. John Maxwell.
7. Am I willing to the pay the price for my dream?
Every dream comes with a price. Nothing is free. “The dream is free, the journey isn't.” ~ Dr. John Maxwell
8. Am I moving closer to my dream?
I ask myself this question everyday. Is this activity that I am working on moving me closer of farther away from my dream?
9. Does working toward my dream bring satisfaction?
You've heard it said many times. It's the journey not the destination that is important. Are you being fulfilled and having fun along the way? Does this dream bring joy and excitement to your life?
10. Does my dream benefit others?
Our dream really isn't about us. It's about the people we serve. How is your dream helping others? “Be a river not a reservoir.” ~ Dr. John Maxwell
