How many farmers do you know that don't plant in season? The answer is probably zero. Farmers plant in thespring, nourish and take care of the crop in the summer, and harvest in the fall. Finally, they prepare and rest in the winter. Pretty simple. How could you apply this wisdom in your business today?
In my opinion, it's springtime every day in sales. How many seed are you going to plant today? The key is plant some. Why? So you have a big harvest in the “fall”. Sales is really pretty simple. Tell your sales story (plant) to as many of the right people every day. In fall it is too late to decide how big of crop you want to harvest.
Let's say the farmer has 100 acres in which to plant. The farmer knows aside from any natural disaster he or she will have a certain amount of crop to harvest in the fall. The farmer knows that the birds may eat some. Why? Maybe the birds are hungry. The farmer knows that it may be a hot dry summer and the heat will take some. The farmer also knows that the weeds may get some. The farmer always plants more than he needs so at harvest time there is a bountiful crop.
Having observed thousands of salespeople over the years, one of the biggest reasons salespeople fail is they don't “plant enough seeds”. So by the time the birds, sun, and weeds get done, there is nothing left.
