It's easy to find the right person in every organization if you ask the right questions. How often do we end up getting the door closed by a gatekeeper or we get connected to the wrong person. This call “Wondering if I could speak to…” is an example of a call that went south fast. You can't start the call out with “I was wondering”. The word wondering means to convey “doubt”. That really not how you want to start out a call do you? Listen very carefully to the questions that this sales person asks. What does “handles” that mean? Asking the right questions will get you to the right person. It could go something like this, “I would like to speak to the person that is responsible for making decisions about cell phones and coverage. Could you tell me who that would be please?” It's that simple. What has been your experience working with gatekeepers?
