No matter what business you’re in, your customers are always right. It’s important to remember that, but it’s also important to listen to them. Learn about them and their family. When you listen to your customers you’ll increase your sales.
Think about a time when you told a business person all about your needs, what you wanted from them, and how you wanted things to work. Now think about how you’d feel if you didn’t get what you asked for. Did this person try to push you into something that was out of your price range or was not what you wanted or needed? Is it possible they wanted the sale and to merely increase their profit by offering you something that was more expensive then what you wanted and didn’t meet your needs?
You need to remember that word of mouth is the best way to market your business. It’s the least expensive form of advertising, or is it? The answer is yes and no. If your customers are happy they will more than likely, tell their friends and family and you’ll increase your income accordingly. The cost will be inexpensive.
If you try to get away with the same ploy as the person in the story earlier, then the cost for your word of mouth advertising will be huge because it’s possible you won’t get the original sale and you’ll lose future sales from this person and any of his friends and family.
Talking and learning about each and every one of your customers can be time consuming, but the end result will make it worth your while in the long run. When they feel like you care about them and not so much about your business, they will find favor in purchasing from you. They won’t have a issue referring you or your services to people they know.
Listen to your customers and help them out as much as possible. Don’t think about making as much money as possible. When you think this way, you’ll find yourself making more money then you could have if you would have suggested the more expensive product.
